Dr. Nick Ruocco
The newest member of Essex Equine, Dr. Nick Ruocco is a Massachusetts native and grew up just down the road in Lexington. He went to Colby College in Maine for his undergraduate degree in biology. He also played baseball for the college, winning numerous athletic awards. After undergrad, Nick went to work for a small animal practice in Needham and then Falmouth. Eventually, he ended up as an equine sports medicine technician on the Wellington Equestrian Festival circuit for two years.
Nick started his veterinary education at Ross University before transferring to Cornell after his first year. During his time at Cornell, he took advantage of the farrier school at the college, completing the 16 week course over his sophomore summer.
Nick also won three awards as a graduating senior including one for Excellence in Large Animal Surgery and one in Theriogenology. The third award is the Warren C. Rebhun and S. Gordon Campbell Memorial Award. It is given to a graduating student with a reliable work ethic and an active life outside of veterinary medicine. When Nick isn’t working on horses, he can be found in the outdoors with family, friends and his trusty companion, his dog Drake.
